A July 26 article in the Iceland Monitor boasts that the Institute of Economics and Peace for the fifth year in a row has judged Iceland "the most peaceful country in the world." Denmark and Austria were second and third in the ratings.
Also yesterday, in Iceland thousands took part in the International Slut Walk movement by marching. The purpose was to emphasize that a victim's clothing is not an excuse for sexual assault. The Slut Walk movement followed Toronto Police Constable Michael Sanguinetti's suggestion in the year 2011 that "women should avoid dressing like sluts" to reduce the risk of sexual assault.
Contributing to the US not being at the top of next year's most peaceful country list was John Russell Houser. Last week he shot up a movie theater in the state of Louisiana and killed two young women. He had called the US a "filth farm" and had praised Muslims for "shutting down liberals that mock their God," adding that "They have my complete Christian respect.
